A recent survey made by Pulse Asia, the campaigns and statements being made by those who oppose the Reproductive Health Bill are becoming more and more ineffective. According to a recent survey done by Pulse Asia, over 69% of the respondents are now supporting the R.H. Bill. Most of the respondents also agree in recognizing the rights of women and couples to choose the family planning method that they want based on their needs and personal and religious beliefs as well as promoting information and access to natural and modern family planning methods. Here is a basic summary of the results of the survey conducted by Pulse Asia:
· A high 80% of the respondents are aware of the RH Bill. Given the high degree of discussion that has occurred on the RH Bill in recent weeks, we were expecting it to be higher.
· The question on sentiments on the RH Bill is well done and is comprehensive in covering the key points of the RH Bill. This question is the most key in this research. It was a good idea that the design included the key elements of the RH Bill in the question. That ensures the respondents are fully aware of what the RH Bill is all about.
· High 69% of respondents agree and support the RH Bill. This is notable as this is about as high as it sued to be in previous researches. That means people’s sentiments have not changed despite the heightened attacks of the anti-RH Bill faction in recent weeks.
· It can also mean the anti-RH-Bill groups have been largely ineffective in swaying the sentiments of the people on the RH Bill.
· Most recent months have seen a lot of discussion and debate on the RH Bill. That means the people are even more aware and educated on what the RH Bill is all about. The scores favoring the RH Bill says the more they know about the more they support the bill.
· Agreement and support for the RH Bill is highly significant, broad based and across the board - all regions and all socio-eco classes.
I think it’s quite clear to people that most of us agree on the R.H. Bill being a positive idea in society rather than a negative moral aspect. In my opinion, this should be proof that there are enough people in the country who no longer give a crap about the irrational perspectives of the church. Why continue following some old school tradition anyway? If something better is offered to replace and obsolete object isn’t it common sense to replace it if we can? Times have change so it’s also time for a change in lifestyle because honestly, I doubt our country will ever grow if we continue to live so irresponsibly. And I also think that the government should make a goddamn choice already. It doesn’t really matter if they pass the R.H. Bill or not. Hey that’s politics. What I want is for them to stop twiddling with their thumbs and make a choice already.
